NEW INTERNATIONAL COACHING PSYCHOLOGY BODY

LAUNCHES COURSE AND WORKSHOP RECOGNITION SYSTEM

The Society for Coaching Psychology (SCP) has announced the launch of their new course and workshop recognition system, which will confer recognition for education and training in the field of coaching psychology. Successful applicants will be able to state that their course or workshop is recognized by the Society for Coaching Psychology as providing continuing professional development (CPD) or education (CPE) for its members.

Honorary Vice Presidents of the Society include leading experts in psychology who are based in AustraliaCanada, China, Denmark, New Zealand, Portugal, United Kingdom, USA and Sweden.

Based in the UK, Prof Stephen Palmer said “This is an important international development, which will provide a benchmark for coaching psychology related training, professional development and educationâ€Â.  From the USA, Dr Patrick Williams commented “The efforts of the Society for Coaching Psychology to recognize high quality courses and educational organizations is a huge step forward for the coaching professionâ€Â.

From Sweden, Dr Astrid Palm-Beskow added “The Society for Coaching Psychology is developing a world wide community of members. There are many challenges in coaching psychology and two of them are to recognise quality in training and promote international cooperationâ€Â. She continued “With the Society’s soon to be launched systems of accreditation and this announcement relating to course and workshop recognition, the SCP is working towards meeting both these demandsâ€Â. Based in New Zealand, Dr Giles St. J Burch stated "The recognition of education and training in coaching psychology is an important step forward in developing the standards and capabilities of coaching psychologists".

In the coming weeks the Society will also be launching the first stage of their accreditation/certification system to provide a route for full members of the SCP who are qualified psychologists.  One of the mandatory requirements will be to maintain evidence of activities undertaken to demonstrate CPD or CPE.  The Society’s course and workshop recognition system will offer guidance and a level of quality assurance for those planning their coaching psychology related annual CPD or CPE activities.

The first ever 'Cognitive Coaching Day' in Gothenburg, Sweden

adSapiens, Swedish Centre for Work Based Learning, a newly opened cognitive coaching centre in Gothenburg, is launching a Cognitive Coaching Day on the 23 of April at 15.00 at Skeppsbron.

The Cognitive Coaching Day will involve a lecture about coaching in the business world and information about Healthy Living, a new lifestyle project. Moreover, a number of coaching case studies will be presented and food will be provided. The Cognitive Coaching Day is open for all individuals with an interest in coaching.

The popularity of coaching is growing both internationally and in Sweden. Indeed, workplace coaching is provided by companies in order to promote personal development and improve performance. Many different forms of coaching exist on the market and there appears to be a lack of coaching based on cognitive theories, techniques and research. The Cognitive Coaching day is aiming to highlight a cognitive coaching perspective and to provide information about the various cognitive coaching services and courses offered by adSapiens.

The event will begin with a lecture by Dr Kristina Gyllensten on the topic of coaching in the business world. Kristina Gyllensten has recently completed a Doctorate in Psychology on the topic of workplace coaching and will talk about some of her research findings. This lecture will be followed by information by Dr Astrid Palm-Beskow, founder of Centre for Cognitive Psychotherapy in Gothenburg, regarding a lifestyle programme called Healthy Living. This is a unique programme that will follow individuals over a year in order to help them to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle based on their particular circumstances. The programme is influenced by the anti-aging movement. Finally, a number of coaching cases studies will be discussed by individuals involved in adSapiens. The event will be an opportunity for individuals to meet and discuss coaching.

Professor Stephen Palmer, a leading international coaching psychologist said, 'Coaching in the business world has really taken off in recent years. In addition to improving performance at work, the research indicates that Cognitive Behavioural Coaching can also enhance well-being and mental health even if this was not being addressed directly in the coaching. It's an extra bonus that may interest caring employers.'

adSapiens, Swedish Centre for Work Based Learning, is a new coaching company that is organising a Cognitive Coaching Day. The event will be an opportunity to receive information regarding cognitive coaching and to discuss the development of coaching. Anyone interested in cognitive coaching is welcome to the event.
